Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or Autonomous Flying Platforms are increasingly seen as important and effective research tools in the Earth and atmospheric sciences. While having previously mainly been used for atmospheric measurements, the potential of UAS for assessing and monitoring Earth-surface properties and processes is increasingly recognized.
We take pleasure in inviting you to a three-day workshop that will explore the potential of and the requirements for dual-purpose UASs in the Mediterranean. The workshop is organized by the Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC) of the Cyprus Institute under the auspices of COST Action ES0802. It will take place in Nicosia, Cyprus on 2011/03/28-30 and followed by regular WG and MC meetings of COST Action ES 0802
Topics to be discussed at the workshop:
a) Review of dual-purpose UASs for atmospheric research and earth surface observation and discussion of their possible utilization in the Mediterranean and elsewhere.
b) Presentation of results from recent scientific UAS field campaigns.
c) Discussions on UAS components: possible platforms, observational modules, avionics<
d) Aspects related to operations of UASs: flight permissions, communication, ground, facilities
e) Requirements and needs of the user community.
Registration will begin very soon!
Titles and abstracts of posters or oral presentations (15-20 min) should be sent directly to Ms. Eroulla Cadd (e.cadd (at) cyi.ac.cy)
